Competitive Market
Game-based learning is not a new concept and as such, there are many programs and types of software that have entered this educational technology market. Kahoot does well in market penetration by providing free services and easy and accessible learning programs. They benefit from having a team that looks to innovate, improve and build upon shortcomings of their program so that they are able to continue to excel in what they offer. They are constantly looking to see how teachers are making use of Kahoot in news ways in their class and they solicit feedback to improve and add-on new helpful features. They have recently added "Ghost" mode to beat historical scores from players and other participants and "team mode" to build up the collaborative learning between participants. However, they have not been active in discovering what opportunities exist to monetize the program. It takes little to no knowledge on the facilitator’s part to launch a Kahoot. Lets take a look at the some of the key rivals of Kahoot. |

Socrative
This program also allows quick and easy trivia quizzes to track student progress and provide live results. The difference with this program is that it allows you to create questions on the fly for immediate responses. It provides useful data and analytic charts to measure student learning. This does well in identifying a problem with Kahoot in that you cannot create questions right in the middle of a session but does require students to have an account and device. The competitive atmosphere is less apparent with this application. |
Zaptation
This is slightly different in Kahoot’s model. There are still trivia questions that the teacher creates but this program allows users to embed questions into videos so that students can view and then answer the questions where the data is tracked for you to access and make learning decisions. Whereas Kahoot exists in real time in classrooms or across digital screens, Zaptation allows for trivia-minded data collection at the student centered pace. This, however, does not capture the competitive and social nature of Kahoot. Much of these programs are not able to recreate the same feeling of social and collaborative learning that Kahoot is able to. |
